Reconciliation

“If we confess our sins, he who is faithful and just will forgive us our sins and cleanse us from all unrighteousness.”

1 John 1:9

Mercy and renewal

Coming home to the Father’s mercy

In the Sacrament of Reconciliation, also called Confession, Jesus meets us with His forgiveness. Through the ministry of the priest, our sins are forgiven, our friendship with God is restored, and we receive grace to begin again.

Whether you confess often or have been away for many years, you are always welcome. At St. Euphrasia Parish, the sacrament is available by appointment, and Father is glad to help anyone who feels unsure what to do.

Before you come

Preparing your heart

†Spend a few quiet moments in prayer
†Ask the Holy Spirit to help you see honestly
†Examine your conscience using the Ten Commandments
†Recall your sins since your last confession
†Be sorry for your sins and resolve to do better
†Learn or bring a copy of the Act of Contrition

In the confessional

Four steps to forgiveness

Step 01

Begin

Make the Sign of the Cross and tell Father how long it has been since your last confession.

Step 02

Confess

Confess your sins simply and honestly. Father may offer some words of guidance.

Step 03

Contrition

Accept your penance and pray the Act of Contrition, expressing sorrow for your sins.

Step 04

Absolution

Receive God’s forgiveness through the priest’s absolution, then go in peace and complete your penance.

You are welcome

Been away for a while?

Many people feel nervous about returning to Confession. There is no need to worry. Remember that:

  • God’s mercy is always greater than our sins
  • Father will gently guide you through each step
  • Everything said in Confession is kept strictly confidential
  • It is never too late to come home
