In the Sacrament of Holy Matrimony, a man and a woman give themselves to each other for life, and Christ blesses their love with His grace. Their union becomes a sign of Christ’s faithful love for His Church, and the foundation of a new Christian family.
We are delighted that you are preparing to marry. Please contact the parish well before your proposed date, ideally at least six months ahead, so that there is time for preparation, documents and the banns of marriage.

Complete the Prenuptial Enquiry Form together and discuss your preparation.
Prepare
Attend a marriage preparation course, gather documents and have your banns published.
Celebrate
Exchange your vows and receive God’s blessing during the Holy Qurbana.
Free State Certificate
Proving you are free to marry
A Free State Certificate confirms, from your parish records, that you have not previously married in the Church and are free to marry. Please note:
- Each party usually needs one from the parish where they lived after turning 18
- If you have lived in St. Euphrasia Parish, apply to us using the form provided
- If you lived elsewhere, including in India, request one from that parish early
- Allow plenty of time, as overseas certificates can take several weeks
